West Coast Action with Surf Guide Algarve, winter special!
During winter we mainly surf the south coast of the Algarve. Functioning almost like an island, the big west coast waves wrap around and get smaller on the south side. Obviously this comes in handy with the massive swells we have this winter! But when the swell finally seems to slow down we can not wait to surf the West Coast again. There is just something pure, raw and different about the west coast waves. Lets drop in, a full Surf Guide special, joined by a couple of our VIP guest share some special sessions.

Define Big
While the guys at Nazare have the best season in history, most surfers need to find shelter this winter. So when the swell is finally dropping to ‘normal surfers‘ doable size, it remains pretty big for most. Offshore wind and bigger periods help the ocean be a little more easy to read. Easy to say we all have jelly arms after these sessions!

Magic exists
Usually when we surf the West Coast on this kind of sessions its quality over quantity. Positioning for a wave, big sets on the head… Yet when it all comes together it really feels like magic. As long as the tide allows it we like to roll early. Less people means more waves for us. Plus, leaving the house while everyone is still sleeping has its advantages too. At least, normally. This morning my princess decides to wake up together with me and insist of giving me a glitter tattoo ‘for good luck‘ – I think it worked. Magic exists.
