Surf Guide Algarve scoring non stop with epic company
As been said before, sometimes the people you share a session with are just as important as the waves. Get ready for an absolute foto dump and mix bag of adventures. Currently two of Surf Guide Algarve‘s returning guests are visiting again and they bring good karma. Scoring non stop good waves with most of the time no one else in the water. Behind on a couple of stories please enjoy this write up with less words and more pictures!
Empty point or beach?
Ask any surfer if he or she prefers an empty point break or beach break and the answer will be simple. Whenever a point is working it usually is a longer and more easy wave and takeoff. Especially at Punta Ruiva where we are surfing today. While the beach is still a bit big and a lot of water moving the point looks surprisingly fun on the set.
Tide is filling in and crowd making its way into the water, we move to the beach and find some more uncrowded waves.
Slab tour
Possibly not as impressive as Nathan Florence but for Algarve standards very powerful. Today we score a true slab syle wave. Technical takeoff but with no one out and plenty of waves coming trough we have all the time to find our groove. Mr surfguide gets a few barrels plus a few on the head and swaps the board for the camera.
Marathon session
Sometimes things do not go all the way as you plan it. Deal with it or change it. About an hour or so after we get in the water a surf school rocks up. Usually they arrive later, but good on them. Quickly my positive thoughts about their commitment change. Twenty guys on big colourful foamboards with no idea what they are doing completely take over the line-up. Since there is really only one working sandbank we choose to take our loss, pack our gear and move to another beach. Straightaway a very good decision, perfect waves with a lot of power welcoming us for the second session.
Castelejo magic
