Lisbon surfers join Surf Guide Algarve for a mission
Portugal has 1800 kilometer of coastline. Together with the geographic placement its no wonder we fetch a lot of swell. Yet everyone knows we need a lot more then just swell to get a surfable wave. Currently Portugal is in the middle of one of the craziest winters in recent history. Only in January we have three storms with a name and the wave size just stays around 5 meter. Usually the surfers in the region of Lisbon have plenty of options to surf quality waves in that area. But with this natural violence the only way to get waves is come down south. One dude goes even further, stands up at 4,30 to drive 2 and a half hour to be just in time to surf with Surf Guide Algarve. Luckily we get a nice session at Cabanas Velhas, and for the first time in a long time even the sun comes out. Enjoy the mission!
Good vibes only
The recipe for a good session is simple, good vibes, fun waves and no or little people. Today is a weekend day and the first day with sunshine since forever. If there are even dudes driving from Lisbon you can expect it will be busy in the water. Surf Guide Algarve does what we do best and find a spot with no one out. Cabanas Velhas is the place today. Although we all seen better conditions, the waves are fun and we all get exactly what we want. Lefts rights, sometimes a little straight…
Wait or go?
Personally I like to catch a lot of waves. Often times I curse myself paddling back from yet another smaller wave when the set with bigger, more pretty waves, land on my head. Next time I will throw out the anchor and wait for the bigger ones! Joking, after 2 minutes I get impatient and paddle back inside. Different surfers, different strategies. Our surfbuddy is good at waiting for the bombs. His wave count is lower but it seems that he is always in the highlight real when there is a camera on the beach. What type of surfer are you, wait or go? Get in touch now and we find out together!
