One day, three sessions, with Surf Guide Algarve
When you surf every single day of the year, a second session often feels not needed. Surf Guide Algarve‘s aim is to pick the best moment of the day, with the best waves and least people. If you are on a surf trip and just want to surf your brains out its different. Every moment in the ocean is good and every wave is bonus. Today is a bit of a special one. Huge swell is hitting Portugal again. With the mixing levels in the guiding crew we already prepare for a double session. But we that it would become three was not calculated! Where to start
Swell has not really kicked in yet, so it makes sense to surf somewhere where others are not looking. Zavial looks nice and clean, some size but not huge, yet. Our lady shredder takes her turn behind the camera knowing more friendly waves will follow shortly after. Showing how everyday is different Zavial has a super fun left hander for us. *Normally its mostly rights on this beach.
Second stop, Burgau
Famous for more user friendly waves, even in bigger swell we drive to Burgau after Zavial. Big sets starting to close out the bay in Zavial, hinting it is time for the second stop. On arrival its clear we are not the only ones with this idea. Yet there is no one out! Interesting how so many people are all waiting for one sheep to jump over the gate. Obviously we love to surf alone and our surf guide algarve guest takes her first two waves with no one out. Two empty beaches in one morning, score! Soon after all the sheep join the party and the session is a wrap.
Fireworks always at the end
Hands wrinkled from too much water time, arms sore, belly empty. ‘‘Dude, only if it really fires and there are barrels I might think of a third session.‘‘ My words to our surf buddy… A few hours my phone lights up, ‘‘I know you want this bro, come over‘‘ added is a video of a boogie boarder getting a 3 second long tube. Meanwhile I know how to handle a little FOMO, but I know today is a special one. Green card from the ladies and I am on my way. Mareta is indeed firing on all cylinders and we all get some incredible waves. Perfection almost always goes without being recorded. Also today, the camera dies after the first wave of a local dude. Still giving a good idea how crazy the session is. Fireworks always at the end!
