Paradise sessions with Surf Guide Algarve
March is a funny month, you never really know what you can expect. Maybe it will be raining and onshore for a week straight. Or maybe its sunny, offshore and perfect waves. One thing is for sure, many people who book one week holiday will not gamble on this period. Resulting in more empty lineups then normal. Surf Guide Algarve is taking full advantage with the few crew that is around. Enjoy the sessions in paradise!
The new fish
As mentioned before, since about a year now Surf Guide Algarve teams up with Gibson surfboards. Local shaper coming from California and now in the Algarve since a couple of years. Together we are working on a couple of projects. Possibly the biggest winner this far is the ‘‘Atomic Fish‘‘. Algarve has a wild mix of waves and honestly I do not think a one board-fits all exists. But if you can only take one board on a surf trip, this would be the one. In fact, I did just that on my last surf trip to the region of Lisboa. Surfing every day from knee high to good overhead plus all on this board. Although the previous fish is magic too, it is a touch too big. So stoked to now have the slightly smaller sister of the same board in my quiver. Let me introduce, ‘Borboletta‘ the new Atomic fish, 5‘5 and now three sessions in, goes as a dream.
Trip down to memory Windsurf lane
Back in da day, when crates of beer were made of wood and we had to keep drinking to keep the fire going. Yes, that long ago. I used to windsurf, a lot. In fact, I had no idea of normal surfing at the time. Fast forward many years later and I think of wind only in terms of onshore or offshore. Yet when I get the invitation from a friend to join a windsurf mission, I am all in. Wind plays a little bit a spoiler *but thats normal in windsurfing. Day turns to be incredible anyway. Hanging out with a different crew, practicing a thing I used to love so much. Apparently its like riding a bike, and in a way this is true. Especially the walk back over the beach with all the gear when I drifted a mile downwind… Stoked and grateful for the opportunity, next time a bit more wind please.
