From overhead barrels in the West to Skatepark waves in the South
What is your favourite spot in the Algarve? A question I struggle to answer. Honestly almost every beach has some incredible moments and memories. So lets reverse the question, what would be your favourite spot? Interestingly enough there is crew that favour the south coast and others that prefer the West. Most likely its the combination of all the different waves that does it for me. One day we literally surfing the heaviest waves the Algarve has to offer on step-ups and the very next day we surfing fun waves on a small twin on the south coast. Enjoy the full surf guide algarve story, from overhead barrels in the west to skatepark waves in the south!
Careful what you ask for
Offshore on the forecast and no people volunteering to sponsor the the ‘help surf guide algarve trough winter program‘. Luckily there are always some friends around ready for some action. If you are my mom or one of the other 2 readers of this write-up you know this guy already. Our partner in crime whenever waves get overhead. Add to this that this dude is actually two meters tall so we mean real overhead waves. Four guys on the peak, one guy breaks his board, the paddle is brutal. Yet we all get some incredible waves.
Small waves is also big fun
After surfing bigger waves small waves all of a sudden feel different. Playful in a way, less serious. Instead of searching for the barrel we can focus a bit more on technique and just…having fun. Today we surf smaller waves generated by a local wind swell on the south coast. Protected by the wind our surf guide algarve guest and me sharing a session that really comes pretty close to perfect. Channel to paddle out, sunshine, no people and more waves then any of us can ever ride. Wonder already what tomorrow has in store, are you coming?
