Most surfers know that the waves get less frequent in this time of year. Yet everything is more expensive. Car, rental place, even food is cheaper in winter then now. So why pay more to get less? Luckily for mr. Surf Guide there are always a couple of people with families who come in summer hoping to get some waves. So here is a little write up ‘How to surfive the summer with surf guide algarve.
Option one, play the waiting game
Text message, ‘Aloha brother! We are back for ten days so let me know when you think is best to go out!‘ Honestly, this is perfect. Putting a little bit of pressure on the guide and trust in the forecast, but within ten days, there will be surf. Today we share some fun shoulder high waves without wind on the beach we call our backyard. Cordoama. Surfcheck done, no one out, we decide to paddle out on the main peak. Knowing this will not be empty for long but the waves are worth sharing. Plus with a very low period there are plenty of waves for everyone. Party vibes in the lineup, everyone happy after a good few days of no waves. Joined by our shaper *the jr. and his mom, making the family complete.
Option two, go with the flow
Yes, there is waves 360 days a year. Technically we can surf every day of the week. Longboard, soft top surfboards and some positive vibes and we make it happen. Without being picky, it is nice to at least do a turn or two on a wave. Waiting can pay off. Option two is just to go with the flow. Portugal and Algarve has a lot more to offer then surfing alone! Windy days in summer are sometimes challenging for the surf, but good for windsurfing! Recovery day? Field trip it is! Flamingo spotting in Alvor, why not?
